LUIGI BAUDANA

Luigi Baudana is one of the smallest active wineries in Serralunga d’Alba and the entire Barolo region. With only 2,6 hectares (6.4 acres) farmed in some of the prime crus of the village, this can be rightly be considered a true garagiste producer.

PAOLO CONTERNO

It all started way back in 1886, when Paolo Conterno founded the Casa della Ginestra, dedicated to the production of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto wines. Today the company is managed by Giorgio that, after generations, continues to do the work of the vineyard with the same passion.

ROCCHE COSTAMAGNA

The Rocche Costamagna winery in La Morra, Italy, has a history that dates back to 1841. The winery is known for its Barolo wines, which are produced from grapes grown in the prestigious Rocche dell’Annunziata cru.

On the 15th of May, 1841, the office of the Royal Military Command of the Province of Alba granted to Luigi Costamagna, the son of founder Francesco Antonio Costamagna, an official license “to retail the wines produced from his own vineyards in La Morra”.

Francesco Costamagna won a Golden Medal at Expo 1911 held in Turin. It was a recognition of fifty years of uninterrupted production. With Francesco passing away, his son Riccardo who was a lawyer in Turin and Alba, continued the family business with the help of his wife Maddalena.

After Francesco’s death, his son Riccardo and wife Maddalena continued to manage the winery. In the late 1960s, Maddalena’s niece Claudia Ferraresi and her husband Giorgio Locatelli took over the winery

Modernization

Alessandro Locatelli, the son of Claudia and Giorgio, has managed the winery since the mid-1980s . He has improved the winery’s vineyards and winemaking techniques . The winery has restored its historic cellars and created hospitality rooms above the cellar 

Since taking charge, Alessandro has upped the quality in the winery, making this one of Barolo’s aziendas to watch. These wines receive consistently impressive scores from the critics, yet remain remarkably good value.

Clemente Travaglini was the one who recognised the potential of this region by establishing the first winery in the center of the city.
